In Monroe’s account, humans supposedly generate a kind of energy through emotional experiences. Fear, pain, love, joy, etc. could all produce different forms of this energy, which he called loosh. He eventually seemed to view love as a particularly refined form of loosh, rather than saying that suffering was the only thing being harvested.
Then look at Monsters, Inc.:
The monsters initially believe that children's screams/fear are the valuable energy source, but eventually discover that laughter produces even more energy.
That last part reminds me of Monroe's idea that positive emotions/love could be a higher-quality form of loosh.
Obviously, I’m not saying Pixar based Monsters, Inc. on Robert Monroe, or that loosh is real. The movie came out years after Monroe's books.
Still, the conceptual similarity is pretty wild.
Do you think it's just a coincidence, or does the comparison remind you of anything else?
