Yeo In-hyung, former commander of the Defense Counterintelligence Command, was sentenced to 18 years in prison at his first trial after being indicted on charges of participating in the December 3 insurrection, including leading efforts to enter the National Assembly. It was the first court ruling involving military commanders indicted on insurrection charges, and the other commanders also received lengthy prison sentences.
The Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Division 26, presided over by Judge Lee Hyun-kyung, held the first-instance sentencing hearing at 3 p.m. on the 21st for Yeo and the other defendants on charges including performing key duties in an insurrection. The court sentenced Yeo to 18 years in prison, former Capital Defense Command chief Lee Jin-woo to 15 years, former Army Chief of Staff Park An-su to 10 years, former Special Warfare Command chief Kwak Jong-keun to nine years, and former Defense Intelligence Command chief Moon Sang-ho to 12 years.
The special counsel team led by Cho Eun-suk, which investigated the insurrection case, had indicted the men on allegations that they conspired with former President Yoon Suk Yeol and others to impose emergency martial law on December 3 and, on the day martial law was declared, played leading roles in operations to blockade the National Assembly and the National Election Commission under orders from Yoon and former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun.
On July 24, the special counsel team asked the court to sentence Yeo and Lee to 30 years in prison, Park to 25 years, and Kwak and Moon to 20 years each.

3. My opinion
It seems December 3rd insurrection might not have been an era-changing incident. Korean politics is returning normalcy as if nothing happened. Far-right activities are down again, moderate figures in PPP like Han Dong-hun & Oh se-hoon is on the rise to kick out weirdos in pro-Yoon MAGA cargo cult. Insurrectionists are in jail and far-right agenda is not given platform in the mainstream media. The Democratic Party of Korea push to change 1987 constitution for more liberal and decentralized one is failing as the ruling party is engulfed in infighting.
