How will the nation’s public finances shape—or constrain—the future of republican democracy in America?

Making his *Uncommon Knowledge* debut, Senior Fellow Joshua D. Rauh examines the country’s mounting federal debt and the political obstacles to controlling government spending. Rauh discusses why higher taxes and faster economic growth alone cannot close the budget gap, warns that rising interest costs could lead to an inflationary crisis, and argues for slowing the growth of entitlement spending. The conversation also covers President Trump’s tariff policies, the potential consequences of California’s proposed billionaire tax, and the economic policy lessons offered by states such as Texas and Florida.

This is a nothing burger of the highest order. America is in so much debt because of all the welfare that we give out. 50% of all of America’s taxes go to welfare, and the major Fortune 500 and 100 companies are the biggest payers of it all as it stands!

There’s our problem right there. Cut off everyone who’s abled bodied that can work, reserve it only for the disabled and those with extenuating circumstances, aggressively go after the fraud, and the problem will sort itself out.
