He may be running one of the most liberal cities in America, but San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie says there's nothing progressive about 810 people dying of overdoses, "there's nothing progressive about 30,000 car break-ins, and there's nothing progressive about small businesses having to shutter because they're a victim of crime over and over again." Mayor Lurie sits down with CNN's Dana Bash to explain what he's doing to turn his city around.

Still won’t deregulate zoning. If most of your city is limited to single family units no shit you are gonna have a housing crisis.
And the Mayor of Seattle is just the greatest, “okay like bye” and then bitches that Starbucks is building a new megaoffice…in Tennessee.
He has a point. My biggest fear is the reaction to the MAGA era is a whiplash to a wacko leftist/dem socialism party in power
The “values” are correct, it’s the attachment to bad populist policy that is then reverse engineered to align with progressive values that is the problem.
Wanting homeless people to be sheltered and for housing to be affordable to everyone is a great progressive value. The issue is that the progressive movement is all-in on bad policy like rent control and any critique of that policy is met with dishonest rhetoric like “won’t anybody think of the landlords” or accusations that you’re bought and paid by corporate interests.
“Law and order” is definitely one of the biggest things I’ve moved right on from my progressive college days.
Soft on crime is electoral poison.
Listening to the full interview, he is not arguing against progressive values in San Francisco, he is arguing against the perfect is the enemy of good progressives who are more interested in who can position themselves further to the left than to focus on actual practical solutions.
I’m sure he personally feels bad about it, but let’s not forget that a huge chunk of his party spent the last few years pretending that blue cities were epic and that criticism were just GOP talking points. Unless the moron class are flushed out from the Democratic machine, there is not much reason to think that it can’t happen again.
The man speaks the truth.
West Coast cities are not the dumpsters MAGA likes to claim they are, but they do have real problems that are exacerbated by or even direct consequences of illogical and incompetent administration that largely comes from the left.
