In recent years there was reporting that china stopped growing their treasury stockpiles, however that declaration is a bit premature. Turns out the actual answer might be that china is using non US custodians to buy treasuries.
Tbh if I were china and I didn’t want to strengthen the yuan I would just spend all that USD on oil and other commodities to stockpile.
