The funny part is scandanavian countries have made it a point over and over that they are not socialist by any stretch of the imagination, and their previous leanings in that direction were proven unsustainable so they changed course.

At yes socialist Scandinavia with no minimum wage, privatized pension funds, school voucher systems, no inheritance tax, a privatized rail company, lower corporate tax than the USA
ENVYisEVIL on
For any tankies that actually want to learn a little bit of history and economics of the Scandinavian **market economies**:
What specific programs in “Scandanavia” are socialist? How are they afforded? Why is the US government “too authoritarian” a bad thing in the eyes of socialism?
Lots of truths already compiled here written and in videos, but lest we forget the US taxpayers basically fund the entire defense of all of Europe and Norway used oil to make its money allowing it to splurge on social programs.

This reminds me of a “more perfect union” video where they where calling for higher national (US) minimum wage and they decide to go on a tangent about how great the scandinavians are…. none of the scandinavian countries have a minimum wage, it’s all pacted.

Sounds like someone never read the Gulag Archipelago if they think it doesnt show that communism is clearly the problem. The book is basically a horror story but the primary characters are the people of russia over the course of seven decades and the movie monster is the economic system thats primary method of torcher was to starve them till their glutes evaporated then beat them with batons on the sciatic nerve.

I read the Gulag Archipelago. Communism was the problem, because it takes a brutal, violent, authoritarian regime to force people to go along with communism, especially when the inevitable shortages of everything get severe. No other systems or even ideas can be tolerated. That is what Solzhenitsyn was telling us.

Fuck Scandinavia. And that’s coming from a Scandinavian (Norwegian). All Scandinavian countries are socialist shit holes if you care ever so slightly about personal and economic freedom.
They regulate every single detail of your life, social engineer people from kindergarten to be perfect servants for the state, ban and regulate anything that can cause individuals to make less money for the state.
Not to speak about the fact that if you add up employer tax, pension tax, income tax, VAT and hundreds of other wierd taxes and tarifs, you work half the year or longer for the state. (I myself paid more than 50%, and I’m not even rich).
The Scandinavian countries are staunchly anti-libertarian (except for perhaps gender & sexuality), and should never be celebrated by anyone on the centre or right in politics, nor libertarians.

It didn’t even work in Scandinavian countries. It was failing so badly that “far right” politicians won in landslides and started massive privatization and deregulation efforts. Now Scandinavian countries are actually less regulated capitalism than the US. They kept a lot of the socialist projects which is also why they are heavily taxed.
Here is a fun thing to mention when someone tries using Scandinavian countries as an example for socialism… mention how you agree school choice is a great thing. If they don’t realize one of the first privatization efforts was schools and that not only in Scandinavia but most of the EU school choice is the norm.

Scandinavia was never socialist. It is a Capitalist Welfare State.
So… make socialism white washed? Seems racist but since it is from Scandinavia, this checks out.

When will the idea that Scandinavian countries are socialist finally die? They are hardly more or less statist than the rest of the Western countries.
And then there’s always this nonsense that you just have to create an anti-authoritarian basis for socialism to work. The socies themselves don’t know how they want to implement their utopia without authoritarianism. How do they want to expropriate without coersion and determine the allocation without force? It’s unbelievable that generations of these idiots haven’t managed to think further than a cow shits for nearly 200 years.

I feel that it’s stupid we still need to address this. My parents grew up in Poland under soviet control, and while im no history major or anything, from what ive heard… it doesn’t sound like a good time. I don’t understand why there are people that say it “works” despite the boatload of historical evidence that proves them otherwise.

As Nic the Fat Electrician put it — and I am *heavily* paraphrasing — Communism is like getting a cake recipe written by someone who has never baked, and one of the ingredients is feces. And when the cake you bake tastes like shit, you blame the oven instead of the recipe, and then you shoot the person who owns the oven in the head and burn their house down. And when this happens a few dozen times and someone suggests that maybe — *just maybe* — the cake tastes like shit because shit is literally baked in, you roll your eyes and tell them they’ll understand when they go to college.
