This is how you get distrust. When they were screaming of Trump might do this in 2021. Now we have Biden giving out 10 year pardons for all federal crime. Which is insane. Expect all future presidents to give out 20 years pardons to all his cronies on the way out.
If we can’t trust the courts to stop unjust prosecution then we have bigger problems than not pardoning x people.

I think I agree with Schiff’s position that it’s better to put the legal system to the test. Basically, issuing the pardons to these individuals protects them and only them (and don’t get me wrong, they deserve to be protected from this bullshit), but it doesn’t protect everyone else or the integrity of the legal system in the long run especially if it fuels a narrative that these people did in fact commit crimes that they needed to be pardoned for.
Better to make the Trump admin put its chips in and its cards on the table by charging all these high-ranking officials and ex-officials with whatever the crimes they supposedly committed are, so we can see it play out in jury trials. I’m assuming they won’t ever be able to bring any charges, or if they do, they won’t withstand jury scrutiny. Sucks for the people who have to go through this, but they’re better equipped to be the bulwarks of justice here than the small fish the admin could go after instead if the big fish are pardoned.

Does this mean Trump can preemptively pardon himself on his way out in 2027? I kind of assumed his federal trials could resume if Dems won in 2028
