Canada is in a bad spot and I’m afraid to say mass immigration is not helping. I’m 100% behind immigration in most aspects, but it has to be responsible and honest, and the schemes Canada has had with international students and importing mass amounts of TFWs is neither. The country has had the highest population growth of all developed Western countries for years now (see below link) and their society is clearly buckling under the strain. Canadians need responsible government now.
6.8% is historically low. Anyone who wants to say things are falling apart, Trudeau is destroying the country, immigration has to stop, etc. should consult the chart.
Also – the reason why the CTV link is getting all the attention is that they have employed intentionally misleading data science to create a compelling if misleading headline. Unemployment reached 6.8% 8.5 years ago, which is why they went with 8 years in stead of the more neutral 10.
But “Unemployment reaches 6.8% for third time in a decade” isn’t going to get clicks from the doomscrollers.
This is borderline, if not outright misinformation, and an excellent real world example of why people have come to consistently believe that things are worse than they are.
Edit: Note that the Conservative Harper government was in power from 2006 to 2015, and the Trudeau Liberals have been in power since then.

Best to lead with the chart – https://i.ibb.co/PC7cDz0/CA-Unemployment-Rate.png
