Former President John Mahama, who ran for the opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC) and served a first term between 2012 and 2017, has won the Ghanaian presidential election.
His victory ends eight years of rule by the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP), whose candidate Mahamudu Bawumia, the incumbent Vice-President, conceded defeat in the early morning.
Per early results, the NDC also secured a majority in the legislative elections, in a campaign dominated by concerns over high inflation and a debt crisis.
