What if the UK builds houses for newts? Seems like the best of both worlds
I’ve posted this elsewhere, but an important thing to note in the UK is that we have a planning law known as the biodiversity net gain, which requires that developers create a net increase of at least 10% in terms of biodiversity compared to the status quo. This is done through a standardised matrix of improvements based on type and scale, so you get a score based on things like managing habitats, adding trees, improving drainage and so on. You can see the guidance on it [here](https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/669e45fba3c2a28abb50d426/The_Statutory_Biodiversity_Metric_-_User_Guide__23.07.24_.pdf) and the industry is quite a fan of it as it simplifies the environmental review process.
