I mean why else would he do something like this if not for this purpose? There was some mention of wanting a census, which does take time and is useful for having elections especially when it comes to determining balanced constituencies, but they could at least establish some form of provisional elected body with a proportional representation vote so they wouldn’t have to worry about that aspect, which could have some role in crafting a new government – if they actually cared about democracy. Of course the former Al Qaeda guy… probably just doesn’t. As funny as it would be if former Al Qaeda guy actually was a How Nations Fail, democracy and freedom and inclusive institutions appreciator, like, let’s be real here

Kinda concerning and you could totally read this as a power grab, but honestly yeah I could see it legitimately taking that long to set up a new government and be ready to hold elections. I’d want to see someone more familiar with the kind of work it takes to set this all up weigh in before I decide one way or another if this is good or bad.

I can understand having a year or maybe two for elections but four seems like more enough to capture all institutions and ensure the continuation of the tradition of 99% of people voting for the same person. I hope I’m wrong
