Why give them extra time if this is for national security?

The vibe I’m getting from all this hand wringing is that they really just wanted TikTok to sell itself to an American company, not actually go away. But ByteDance called their bluff, and now they’re tripping over themselves to avoid looking like a dad taking their kid’s phone away.

The Dems look absolutely embarrassing here. It’s either a threat that needs to be banned no matter the costs or it’s not. The last minute wavering makes them look incompetent and insincere in their reasons for banning it.

Absolute coward shit. Do it or don’t but don’t go 99% of the way only to chicken out. You just look inept and weak at that point.

>Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) introduced a bill Wednesday that would extend the ban deadline by another 270 days, arguing TikTok has built online communities that “cannot be replicated” on another platform.
>Markey offered the measure by unanimous consent in the upper chamber, but it was quickly blocked by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who argued TikTok was given “plenty of time” to find a buyer and divest from ByteDance.

I dont really understand why a ban was pushed for and now all sides are scrambling to pull it back? This just comes off as Democrats being really dumb
