At the moment his statement still relies on sale of the company, just 50% instead of 100%, and still mentions security concerns. If he somehow gets them to sell now when they wouldn’t the last year, he’ll get that win. If they refuse, we’ll be back to this stage and he’ll tout it as a national security thing.
Either way, Dems should’ve written the bill to have the ban be effective a month ago.

Why didn’t Biden make sure a poison pill was put into this bill where no EO can be issued to unban Tiktok and the only way to unban would be congressional legislation?

Yes, this will be perceived by younger voters as a major Trump victory. One day into office and he’s already saving a popular social media platform. No, it doesn’t matter that Trump supported a ban back in his first term and tried to push that executive order in 2020. 99%+ of voters do not know or care about those sorts of meaningless details. You’re not going to “educate” them either, that’s not how any of this works. This was just awful, awful politics for the Democrats. This is what happens when your party is run by out of touch geriatrics who can’t rotate a PDF but have strong opinions on modern tech issues.
