Thank you, Matty Y, for making me feel less guilty about the full-sugar can of coke I drank while reading this

Blogger thinks he is an expert in everything, many such cases! This guy thought rasing interest rates 50bp meant raising it 50%, so I’d be surprised if he did anything more than a quick Google before firing this one off.
Furthermore, he has quickly framed any dental association as rent-seekers, making it clear that he isn’t interested in contrary facts since they will inevitably be put forward by those who knows best, dentists, and he opposed dentists.
Matt Yglesias has had enough of experts, but I saw what happened with brexit and am not convinced he truly knows better than they.

Was expecting a rant about wisdom teeth removal being a scam, instead got generic contraianism

I think it’s common knowledge for people over the age of 25-30 that dental insurance doesn’t cover much. Dentistry is sort of unique here are huge cost differences in what procedure is done. Root canal + crown can cost well over $2000 while an extraction is $200. Both will prevent you from getting an abscess, but keeping your teeth makes a big difference in terms of quality of life.
But you don’t really need all your teeth, and insurance will usually cover most of the extraction.
If you want nice teeth, you either gotta pay for it or take very good care of your teeth (or both if you are unlucky)
My major motivator for brushing and flossing consistently is avoiding expensive dental bills. I also obsessively rinse my mouth out with water after eating or drinking anything.

>And while I, of course, condemn anti-dentitism in all its forms, dentistry’s bad regulatory state turns out to be just one part of a broader web of unsavory business practices in the oral health industry.

“Dentists are bad”
It’s provocative, it gets the people going. It gets them clicking through to your article.
