Suzie, 39, from Cincinnati, Ohio and mother of 3, uses ChatGPT to write softcore erotica novels involving a UPS driver, that has a passing resemblance to the UPS driver that delivers her packages, and a teacher who wants to quit her job and runaway and explore the world with her lover. 

Suzie though, being the passionate creature that she is, regularly runs across the daily limit and has considered paying the $20 monthly for unlimited access to it’s smartest AI service. But money is tight and her son, little Timmy has expensive meds her family needs to buy every month so she feels guilty for even considering spending frivolously on such selfish impulses. Plus how could she justify spending the money to her husband. Would he ask too many questions? 

One day, her workmate Mindy, 28, tells her about a new AI platform from China called DeepSeek that is essentially just as good as ChatGPT but orders of magnitude cheaper. Suzie is delighted to hear this. When she gets home, Suzie decides to try it and grabbing her debit card, adds $2 dollars worth of credit to her account. To her pleasant surprise, this grants her and she spends hours and hours on the platform to her heart’s content. 

A few weeks later, that $2 still hasn’t run out but now she has a new problem. She’s developed an addiction, she’s now regularly using DeepSeek at work, neglecting her work duties. What if she gets caught, what if she loses her job, how will she explain any of this to her family?

Then one day, Dave, 43, her dorky workmate with a round glasses and a nassaly voice who regularly reads Matt Yglesias’ blogs and whose wife left him the previous year, tells her she shouldn’t use it because it censors things. He tell her to look up the Tiananmen Square massacre. She does so and to her horror DeepSeek says that it doesn’t know anything about that. She tries repeatedly to get answers from the platform she considers almost a friend and is repeatedly left wanting. She asks about Taiwain Independence and it’s the same thing. 

She cannot believe that she has supported such an evil platform coming from such an evil country. She’s overwracked with guilt and decides to cut off all contact with the platform. How could she make up for such a crime? For supporting such deeds such as the Uyghur genocide. It’s too much for her. She writes a note to her family and then walks along the tracks near the Cincinnati Train Terminal. 

She hears a distorted horn at the distanced behind her. She sheds a single tear in shame and sadness before it all goes black.
