>In his 2007 Christmas address to the nation, Köhler urged the government to push ahead more quickly with reforms. He was also critical of the introduction of the minimum wage in the postal sector (which had led to the loss of 1,000 jobs at Deutsche Post rival PIN Group), stating that “a minimum wage that cannot be paid by competitive employers destroys jobs”.[42]
So german, I guess they deserve each other

Very sad news I find, Köhler was probably our best President this century. The fact that he had to resign over saying that the Bundeswehr should perhaps also be deployed to protect international trade routes is absolutely ridiculous.
I got the chance to listen to his speech at 2023s BERMUN conference and it was very interesting to hear both his opinions on german politics and his time as head of the IMF. May he rest in peace.

14 years ahead of his time. RIP
15 years ago the Greens criticized him for saying that the Armed forces need the capability to defend trade routes, which lead to his resignation.
1 year ago the Green Government orderd the Sachsen to the Red Sea to protect trade routes, without sufficient ammunition.
