[Senators] Kaine & Coons Introduce Legislation to Require Congressional Approval of New Tariffs on U.S. Allies and FTA Partners
From the Senator’s announcement:
“The STABLE Trade Policy Act would institute a requirement of Congressional approval before a president could impose new tariffs on U.S. allies and free trade agreement (FTA) partners.”
Great policy. Will get 0 Republican support and die immediately.

It won’t become law but this is a good bill to introduce anyway.
It splits the GOP coalition. It creates a contrast with Trump. When Trump’s tariff insanity inevitably blows up in his face and tanks the economy, it gives them something to point at and say “see, we were warning this is a danger and we have a solution to the problem”.
There’s literally no downside to messaging bills like this. Hammer away with them.
