Look, obviously there won’t, in the long term, be a government shutdown.
That part is obvious.
But Trump is illegally shutting down most of the federal government **right now**.
He’s ignoring court orders **right now**.
If the final funding package doesn’t reflect **significant** concessions (say, Trump agrees to follow the law), that’s a red line.

Honestly smart move. By all accounts Johnson is nowhere near getting the GOP House Conference organized to even propose a bill yet, or to pass a bill from the Senate. Publicly pushing for a shutdown would just give the GOP an alibi for its own incompetence.

If people actually read what Schumer said, you would realize he’s saying that Republicans are on their own unless they give something good.
