There’s nothing that says the press and government are supposed to be working together. Arguably journalism works best from an adversarial position. If anything, a press corps serves to soften criticism because they can be threatened by withholding of access.
Access gone? Guess what, now the gloves can come off.
I’m cautiously optimistic this hurts Trumpworld more than it hurts mainstream journalism. Of course everyone gets hurt when transparency is lost, but it’s all about relative harm now.
