“Do we need the bomb?” More German talk about developing nuclear weapons. Merz is headed to Paris to discuss the prospects of Europeanizing the French nuclear deterrent

I feel this is an attempt at a relatively low cost, low risk, low commitment way of defense.
As countries that have been in the “nuclear” game a long time will tell you, you’re gonna be fucked if every defense problem that faces you that you attempt to solve with a nuclear deterrent.

I think a better idea would be to propose a deal for the British nuclear system. Currently the British rely on the US for maintence and procurement of their ICBMS, which isn’t ideal imo. Replacing that with a truly joint procurement system between the UK and Germany (or others) would probably be more cost effective plus more strategically free

Germany becoming nuclear curious and facist curious, again. I’m sure it’ll be fine.
