its nice to see a socialist magazine ( yes, they REALLY are socialist, running articles saying that every billionaire is a failure of the tax policy and that billionaires shouldn’t exist) calling out exclusionary zoning as one of the main reasons for the housing crisis in North America
even though i disagree with most of their economic policies ,including rent control , its nice to see that single family zoning is starting to get more blame for the housing and inequality crisis in US
to be fair ,it fits their ideology , as they can make he argument that exclusionary zoning is just one more way for the upper class to limit the economic mobility of the lower classes ,especially migrants and inner city youth, but whatever
i always believe that doing the right thing for the wrong reason is better than doing the wrong thing for the right reason
reminds me of articles with Amish replacing diesel generators with solar power, and gas tools with electric tools ,because in this way they become less dependent on the outside world. Doing the right thing is still doing the right thing
between that, and Bernie calling out Republicans and Trump for sucking up to Russia ( this video of Bernie just absolutely slaps [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKBM2kS6B8o](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKBM2kS6B8o) ), who would have thought that progressives are far more sane than 99% of the MAGA?
at least progressives are
* pro-clean energy , solar power, EVs , reducing GHG emissions
* pro taking in refugees , even those running from regimes like Venezuela and Cuba
* pro restricting the power of billionaires in politics
* in general, anti-Russia, because they view it as an oligarchy that perverted every socialist principle after 1990s
* just wished they were more critical against their tankie wing, but then again, no Democrat voted against Ukraine aid in 2024 and only 3 abstained
* the progressive democrats wing as a whole still voted in a higher percentage pro-ukraine aid than the Republican party as a whole
most of their economic policies annoy me, but they arent a literal threat to the western civilization like MAGA is (pro-Russia and pro-fossil fuels)
Jacobin is like a dead clock, every once in a while they stumble upon a correct take.
I’d still be surprised if zoning reform took hold anywhere in the US
