So here’s thing, and I know there’s going to be a knee jerk reaction to this:
If you watched the full meeting, Trump was on board until Vance stepped in, and then Trump pivoted hard against Zelenskyy. It’s entirely possible that Trump will ultimately side against Zelenskyy and nothing can be done to change that, but it’s also entirely possible that it isn’t/wasn’t inevitable.
Zelenskyy is going to have to choose between his pride and his country. And yes, there’s a world in which he throws away his pride to grovel to Trump and that still isn’t enough to save him because Trump has a grudge from 2019. But that’s the reality of the situation.

In terms of Ukrainian interest, it probably *is* wise for Ukraine to try and stabilize this relationship. Options are pretty limited. Ultimately, Europe sends “thoughts and prayers” not an alternative to US sponsorship.
Otherwise… NATO is a different kind of thing than it was last week regardless of where the Trump-Zelensky story goes. That doesn’t mean it will disappear. Alliance with very little trust often do hold together. They just tend to fall apart when war comes. NATO was a pretty special case. Now it’s a standard case.

I’m sure it hurt Rutte to say this just as it hurt us to hear it. But he became the head of NATO at probably the most trying time for the alliance in its history. He’s trying to navigate an incredibly difficult situation as strategically as he can.
