Views of Trump’s speech are overwhelmingly positive

  1. BTW, as you can find on the article, there was an overrepresentation of republicans, but even if we assume 100% of republicans have positive views on trump, a balanced representative sample of the US population would give, instead of a +53% net support, a +25% support as a whole (You can adjust all numbers by substracting 27% on each to get a representative number ASSUMMING 100% favorability on republicans)

Put another way, the number of disagreement and disapproval of his speech and his ideas has been so low, that if all disapproval came from democrats, it would mean 100% approval for republicans and at least 85% approval from independents

that is, among the complete representative whole US population, Trump’s speech has enjoyed a level of popularity not seen since Obama, and has been widely approved by most sectors of society

Remember that when you talk about how these policies make Trump unpopular

“among speech watchers” most people who don’t like Trump aren’t going to voluntarily watch an hour long speech from him

I’m not American but I think a lot of Trump 2.0 support in the polls is that the average American is now far closer to his views on immigration than they were the first time round and if he just keeps hammering on about it then for now it is outweighing his economic performances. I think people have a rosy view of his economy pre-covid but give it time and if he continues self-inflicting economic woe people will start pinning the economy squarely on him rather than a handover from Biden. And even maybe give Biden some kudos in hindsight that he handled the economy as well as anyone could have post-covid.

  4. Disappointing but whatever. Check back during the recession when people are having their lives ruined

  5. This isn’t a representative sample. People who watch Trump speak are overwhelmingly likely to be favorable to Trump. And no, you can’t properly adjust for that, because there’s no way to account for it when sampling bias is built in like this. Even among independents and Democrats, the subgroups who’d watch a Trump speech are more pro-Trump than the ones who wouldn’t.

I didn’t watch it, but I get the feeling that you guys need to chill. Trump is bad, but we don’t need to look for things to be mad about. There’s plenty of things to focus on elsewhere. If his speech didn’t offend anyone then that is a good thing.

Even though viewership on these are one sided I will repost my comment from earlier.

Jeffries got hate for saying dems should lay low and be normal while Trump blows up the economy. Tonight makes it clear he’s right

  8. Strong selection bias. You have to be a certain kind of unhinged to be able to listen to more than 20 seconds of Trump’s rambling.

  9. People here are trying to down play it. I’m not gonna sugar coat it. Americans know who Trump is and everything he stands for and they like it. He even won the popular vote after inciting an insurrection. There is something very wrong with a big portion of the American electorate.

How can democrats believe in democracy but get angry when a majority vote for trump
