One thing that Republicans do better than Democrats is influencing the public opinion. Democrats seem to operate under the illusion that public opinion cannot be swayed but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Democrats must be able to influence their opinions in order to counteract the Republican narratives.
It feels like the Democrats act like they’re just guests in the Republican Party’s America, even when they have the power. They don’t claim to speak for the country, they don’t try to influence popular opinion, and they constantly concede things to the Republicans in the name of “bipartisanship”, never mind that the Republicans would never do the same for them. The result of this is that the Republicans have gotten to fully define what America is, and the result of that has been America’s slide into fascism. I know there are people on this sub who are opposed to criticizing the Democrats for whatever reason but if they don’t toughen up, there will be nobody to fight for American democracy and civil liberties. They do need to get their shit together.
On the subject of persuading people, look at what TWO transgender democrats were able to achieve on Montana, despite democrats being the minority in Montana’s congress: https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/powerful-speeches-from-trans-dems/comments?utm_source=post&utm_medium=web&triedRedirect=true. They convinced 29 Republican LEGISLATORS, never mind uncertain, malleable voters, to vote down a disgusting affront to Montanans civil liberties. Imagine what 100s of democrats could achieve if they had the same moxy.
