Bolsonaro must stand trial over alleged coup attempt, Brazil’s top court rules

  1. ##Bolsonaro has just been indicted by Supreme Court

    The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGR) is accusing him of several crimes, with a sentence of 38 years.

    It’s expected for the trial to happen in the next few months.

    ###The alleged crimes:

    – **Criminal organization**: sentences of 3 to 8 years, with up to an additional 4 years for the aggravating factor of firearm use and up to an additional 5 years for the involvement of a public official;

    – **Violent abolition of the democratic rule of law**: sentences between 4 and 8 years;

    – **Coup d’état**: sentences between 4 and 12 years;

    – **Qualified damage with violence and grave threat**: sentences from 6 months to 3 years;

    – **Damage to listed heritage property**: sentences from 1 to 3 years.

    Accountability for trying to tear down democracy is good. Too bad the U.S. doesn’t seem to do that.
