It wouldn’t surprise me if Trump 180s on Canada if he likes Carney. I think all the “51st State” and annexation bullshit was purely because Trump hates Trudeau—which others have pointed out on this sub.
If there’s anything that is worth noting about Trump’s approach to foreign affairs, it’s that relationships are purely based on convenience (I.e. whoever is willing to provide a transaction-able benefit). There’s no long term strategy or greater world view that serves as a compass, it’s just decision making based on instant gratification.
Well, that’s better than if it didn’t happen but let’s see how long it lasts. We’re not exactly dealing with someone known for consistent thinking.
