When it comes down to it Trump’s double whammy hit of taking exemptions away from small package items is going to hit Chinese middle and lower incomes hard. There’s a whole internal independent economy over there involving parts, manufacture and distribution of small cost items. Through wish, temu and all the other digital marketplaces.

It’s not so much main income but supplemental income. Extra money. “Gig work”.

Combine that with more labor strikes becoming more frequent and China is going to have to find a way to keep their middle class happy. They’re about to find out that keeping them happy is actually harder than lifting them up from poverty in the first place.

  4. A simplistic take is “late in the Ming dynasty, China turned inward and slid quickly from global preeminence to irrelevance”. Simplistic for them, but unfortunately probably perfectly accurate for America’s Trump Dynasty.
