    Joke answer: egg prices.

Serious answer: China and Russia took advantage of the disadvantages of western democracy and liberalism to pump misinformation and destabilize our institutions. Villainizing education and smart people. Selfishness, stubbornness, and entitlement to think economies remain stagnant.

But most of all I think the lack of social security net in the US made low value adding workers in coal, auto-making, steel (i.e. the rust belt, which holds disproportionate power) view keeping their job in their industry as an imperative instead of being able to transition to the higher value added industries.

  2. I don’t think this is a particularly uncommon opinion. A lot of it is Millenials being kids and being nostalgic, but most people view the 90s very fondly. Popular, charismatic President, no 9/11, no foreign enemy, economic boom, emergence of internet, meant everyone felt pretty good about themselves and politics.

  3. There was famously an incident in LA of 1992 that already makes this utter drivel.

I can see what they are saying though. Its not true that the 90s are apolitical, but an apolitical person (which describes most people generally) in the 90s could go about their lives with far less interaction with social politics. With the internet its almost impossible to escape all the takes, and the most extreme voices are repeatedly amplified by algorithms
