Today marks the 50th Anniversary of the Fall of Phnom Penh to the Khmer Rouge and initiation of the genocidal "Year Zero" transformation that butchered 25% of Cambodia's population (~ 2 million people) in the next four years.

“Fun” fact about life under the peak of Khmer Rouge rule (around 1977): Life expectancy in Cambodia (~ 12-18 years) was lower than that during even the deadliest prehistoric or medieval time periods. All during the time of Star Wars: A New Hope, The Sex Pistols, Apple II computer etc.
