    The issue is that (largely boomers but not entirely) property owners in Canada *cannot accept a policy that will cause their homes to lose value*. They may talk a big game, but I’ve seen time and time again that voters with property MASSIVELY punish those who talk about increasing taxes or building more homes

    I’m not really sure how to go about popping the bubble either; a HUGE chunk of the Canadian economy is tied to housing. Construction alone employs 8% of the population, compared to ~5% for the US, 3% in Germany, or 6.5% in China. That’s ignoring the rest of the economy being stimulated by HELOC fueled spending
