To be clear, while I am opposed to this policy, it’s not *quite* as bad it sounds. It’s is voluntary (as much as something like this *can* be voluntary), and it’s targetted at sex offenders that exhibit *compulsive* behaviours that make them a *significant* risk if they get released.
What’s concerning is the Justice secretary’s statement in parliament that the government would consider making it *mandatory* in the future. That is genuinely horrifying.
