The problem is and this is pure vibes, is say 75% (pure aribatary number) &do well and thrive and the other 25% basically suffer and you’d think they never went to university at all or something, basically a stillborn career. Naturally this envitably leads to other problems, like feeling behind compared to your peers and so on

Supply and demand can basically sum up the whole thing. The article touched on the idea of Elite Overproduction but didn’t really dive into the details of it. The truth is there’s just too many graduates and not enough jobs for them. It’s not statistically possible for everyone to be in the top 20%. It’s coming to the point where the average 18 year old cannot justify anymore taking out 50K or more in loans if their starting salary after graduating will be 40K. The past few years have particularly hit the STEM majors hard, which have typically been immune from post-grad struggles.

For example, you have software engineering job postings getting thousands of applicants within hours. Same story with most white collar entry level jobs, although tech is the worst right now. Employers can afford to be picky and selective. Combine that with layoffs, lack of hiring, and uncertain economic situation, what you get are tons of underemployed or unemployed grads.
