    > vendors share that they pay upwards of $20,000 for permits

    This is a fucking crime.

  2. $20k is insane for a food truck permit as is just 400 new permits a year in a city of over 8 million

$20,000 is a year’s worth of profits. Maybe even two. Poor people could never afford to pay that.

  4. This is the small scale abundance shit we should be doing. It affects everyone and it’s relatively minor change.

  5. The title seems slightly misleading to me, at first glance I thought he was going to institute price control, but he just wants to make permitting less expensive.

  6. This is good policy. Food carts/trucks should be one of the least difficult ways to break into the market and accessible for folks who don’t have a massive pile of start up capital – as long as everything is above board with labor, food safety and sanitation, that should be the end of it. Perform regular food safety/sanitation checks and stop gouging folks trying to make a living under 40 miles of permit fees and red tape.

$20k for a permit is absolutely obscene.

Are prices so outrageous because of availability of spots for food carts? It’s one thing if it’s pricing a lot of people out of the industry, it’s another if there is a roasted nuts or street meat cart every 20 feet. I haven’t been deep into NYC since COVID but I remember a lot of places had an abundance of food carts.

  8. And just like that, with one video actually published in January, arr neoliberal took back everything bad they ever said about Zohran.
