We need a more honest/real “history of the 1951 asylum convention.”
How it has been practiced, in real life, throughout different periods and by different states.
Both the assumptions of the convention, and its applications in real life do not line up with reality. With due respect to the lawyers… we need historians to weigh in.
Also quantifications. How.many people actually qualify, or would have qualified for asylum at different points? Under different interpretations of the treaty? How many were granted. How realistic is expectation of repatriation, or an end to the crisis creating refugee outflow?
Enough with these games. Its time to get back to actual factual analysis, regardless of upsetting people of various political tastes.
The conversations we have are far to abstract and aloof to be useful.

it’s not falling apart, the right to asylum has never been better resourced, better entrenched in legal precedent, or more strongly enforced, that’s why everyone is going apeshit lol
