Spain overtakes Germany as top EU asylum destination

  1. It makes perfect sense: Fewer asylum requests from the middle east, and a bunch more from America, where they speak Spanish. Every asylum seeker is also an economic immigrant, so they will go to the places where they think they’ll have an easier time of getting a job and rebuild. For South Americans, that’s easily Spain once you cut the US out.

Also see the Argentinians claiming Italian citizenship by family, and then just immediately using the single labor market to move to Spain, as they know little Italian. Spain’s GDP growth? All those people finding jobs in a language they speak.

I think it’s a glorious opportunity to get millions of immigrants when the population is aging, and therefore bringing back another construction boom, but the young don’t seem to think that far ahead, and think their jobs are being taken. That’s what we get from teaching no economics in high school
