My understanding of the literature is that Freight deregulation since Carter has been fairly successful and prices have come down even with numerous mergers over the past decades. Hopefully this leads to further productivity increases.

Considering this is an eastern railroad and a western railroad merging, this will hopefully make transporting goods east to west more efficient.
