  1. I assume this is about making sure they can blockade Taiwan and survive a counter-blockade at the strait of Malacca?

China’s energy strategy is basically” anything but imports”

even in the coal sector, imported coal is replaced by domestic coal, due to a slowdown in demand growth while domestic production ramps up fast enough

on the one hand, this makes China more confident in the case of a war in Taiwan

on the other hand, can’t really feel bad for coal, oil and gas exporters that are seeing Chinese imports collapsing

China accounts for half of coal imports worldwide, 11% decline is huge and is the main cause of curent market oversupply and price decline( leading to bankruptcies among Russian coal producers)

They spent several years separating their National economy from their civil economy. Which will insulate and protect their civil economics even in the face of international sanctions or trade embargoes.

And now they are insulating their energy sector. Making it to where even if they are cut off from every resource of the outside world they can still produce more than enough energy for their needs.

There are many common factors that have screwed over Nations who have tried to expand before. And China has been methodically going down the list and making sure they do not fall in to those same traps.
