Conflicting with France, especially neoliberal Macron, is probably just good populist politics.
The main hard “interest” is Algerian hydrocarbon exports. Gas has been a great asset… if your goal in life was to make Europeans eat crow diplomatically.
Algeria indulged. Europe’s energy crisis subsided… and now France don’t want to eat crow.
