I hate these garbage takes from armchair generals who think they’re predicting the future of warfare for the millionth time.
The CAF is a combined arms force and failing to uphold that is going to lead to a litany of problems in the next low-intensity conflict, let alone a WW3-level conflict. Hell, even in Afghanistan we realized MBTs were not irrelevant and major platform gaps in the CAF were bridged.
This doesn’t even begin to address Canada’s NATO readiness commitment of a mechanized brigade with 30 days’ NTM. Which I’m sure the author never considered before suggesting Canada should divest itself of tanks and artillery.
The solution to the absolute decay of the CAF is to fix the decay. Not decide we’re not a combined arms force anymore. We had this same debate far back in the 60s and 70s and it only resulted in Canadian soldiers being deployed underequipped to conflict zones in the 90s and 00s.

No, we let the ADATS hit retirement without replacement because we did not have the funds to do so while committed to Afghanistan and facing the post-GFC budget cuts to defence. It’s the same reason why we stopped the CV90 procurement. CAF members didn’t spent the next 15 years talking about how it was a smart decision, we spent the next 15 years screaming blue murder about how the military’s only air defence capability was pointing a machine gun into the sky.
