We all know these phone companies do things to make you feel the fomo and buy the new shiny tech every few years, but this one is so egregiously greedy and obvious to me that I had to write this down somewhere. Planned obsolescence has been a thing for a long time in the tech world, including the newest of the useless fad upgrades: thinner smartphones.

No one asked for this. 1 out of 20 comments on any media regarding the new wave of thinphones is reacting positively to it. It's being marketed as a great new feature but it's only there to achieve one true goal: smaller batteries.

Remember of course that we can no longer replace batteries in our phones by design and still keep things like IP ratings, warranties, or cost effectiveness. Modern smartphone batteries have a finite amount of recharge cycles before they're unable to reliably hold a decent charge. You all know what I mean – your old Galaxy S22 ultra needs to be charged 3 times a day because the battery can't hold a charge anymore, that type of thing. I'm not going to get too into the science behind this or the fact that these corporations have been caught purposely pushing updates that kill battery life and overall performance to force you to purchase to a new $1000+ phone.

Just one more notch in the long belt of corporate, money grubbing, disposable-everything society. I'm buying a fucking flip phone.

    1. I have been using an iPhone 8 Plus for probably 4 years now. Had no problems, and now it won’t let me upgrade my software to download the majority of new apps that I need. How can this be legal

If any of these companies especially Apple cared about the customer they’d go back to an every two year launch schedule. Instead they rather rush half baked software and slightly better hardware upgrades. All Tim Apple is concerned about is profits for himself and his shareholders.
