Turns out when your prime demographic spends their money on you extremely elastically, you can’t just act like a thermostat like the other big corporations.

This was planned a long time ago (he was on a 3 year contract and it’s up). The boycotts probably didn’t have an impact on this decision, and frankly I’m not sure they’re responsible for Target slumping. They’re more expensive than Walmart and the store experience is worse than it used to be

  3. I wish they would turn away from my local Target.

That place is busy as shit all the time.

  4. They’re replacing him with the COO, so business as usual. Article even mentions that this is one of the chief issues with Target lately. Complete inability to not drink the koolaid. It’s groupthink all the way down and not changing anytime soon.

Millennials turning away has hurt their bottom line, but they were already beginning to struggle, and with tariffs on the horizon, the outlook was always going to be bleak even if they didn’t bend the knee and axe their DEI programs. You can absolutely expect stores to close their doors and massive downsizing in 2026, 2027, and maybe even into 2028 if the pain is bad enough. It’s inevitable at this point.

  5. I know a lot of people blame the boycott and Trump kiss-assing, but part of is also just that Target, like, sucks.

It use to be relatively nice, relatively cheap (though still more expensive than Wal Mart), and lib coded.

Then they became quite expensive, grungy, started locking up huge amounts of their inventory that you had to ask employees to reach. Compared to Wal Mart, their only value add was that they were lib coded.

Amazon hasn’t seen the same decline in business, despite embracing fascism like Target. Because Amazon has other value-adds that Target just, doesn’t. Every advantage Target had over Wal Mart, they completely ceded. And with places like Costco expanding their online retail, there’s vanishingly little reason to go to Target anymore.
