*this is from the book “The Body: A Guide for Occupants” by Bill Bryson. A fantastic armchair biology book.

I blame agriculture. We could have just picked berries and threw sticks at squirrels but no

      I like the deevolution theory.

It claims that humans were more evolved in the ancient past, but due to genetic manipulation or a genetic bottle neck caused by inbreeding after a near extinction event. Humans basically lost 99% in genetic diversity.

This post was brought to you by Carl Jr.

    4. There’s evolutionary theory regarding warming climates and smaller body size. Also, having more of a collective society where people have widespread language skills of reading and writing that there is less need to individually retain information to survive. That’s a theory. There is not one doubt that as a collective the human species have evolved a shit ton over the past 5,000 years.

Part of it is probably also the move from living in trees to walking upright. To walk more efficiently upright the shape and size of the pelvic girdle changed limiting the space through the birth canal.

Adoption of grasses as a staple, animal domestication and depredation.

No sabertooth tigers eating the dumb ones, you didn’t have to outwit your prey anymore, and you are what you eat, namely grass.

Humans were never better off than hunter gathers. They were stronger, healthier, smarter and mostly disease free. All modern day ailments are results of agriculture and animal domestication.

Hmm I might be wrong but the difference between 1350 and 1500 cm3 is 150 cm3 or 10%.
I’m not sure about you but I’m confident that there is no way I could fit 9 tennis balls in my head, perhaps 9 table tennis balls, but not 9 tennis balls!

I think someone needs to check their facts.

    8. Probably like Koalas where we spent thousands of years starving to death so we sleep more and have lower consumption brains with less need to use it to survive.

Also ties into the free energy principle and survival of the fittest. The FEP is basically your brain as a survival based probability machine minimizing uncertainty while maximizing energy efficiency; the more refined our worldview gets, the more we extend tribalism in larger circles of trust, the less relative threats that exist for survival, the more our brains get leaner and more efficient.

The average 30 year old has more than a spork’s worth of micro-plastics in their brain. Even the blood-brain barrier is unable to keep out the micro plastics. Basically, our brains are trashed.
