Never forget we had an actual monster attacking peasants in France. But what actually was The Beast?

The Beast of Gevaudan, killed a crapload of peasants by tearing their head off. Described as the size of a calf, with black stripes, big shoulders, and a tuft tail. People have speculated hyena and tiger but I don’t think it was either. I personally think it it was a Wolf-Leonberger hybrid that was either acting on its own or being buried by a human. Could have been another big dog too but the teeth Castile got were canine
