  1. Somehow Newsom has started getting through to my almost entirely apolitical father

At first he started with “Newsom’s an idiot” but then he kept laughing at the Newsom tweets and follows the account

Trump understands the median voter like no other, and if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em I guess

How do people here feel about the work of Thomas Pynchon? He’s my favorite American author though I know he’s an acquired taste

  3. SpanktankThinkbank on

It took the Democratic party decades to realize the median voter is donkeybrained and treat them how they want to be treated.

    > OK Superintendent Plans To Give Transplant Teachers From NY, CA Woke Tests Developed By Prager U

laughing at all the dorks who fell for the “Conservative on education means advanced placements and maths 🤓”

  5. I think one thing that’s definitely come out of the last year is the complete discrediting of the concept of “soft power”, or at least any decision-making based on this concept being real

    – Any countries that think they have “soft power” can’t meaningfully use it to influence the US in any way, which makes the entire concept worthless. Similarly, from the US perspective the current leadership clearly thinks that “soft power” is completely useless at getting “allies” to do anything until you bring out the stick.

    – It turns out that cultural exports are yet another “metric that correlates 0.9 with GDP per capita” as china takes over certain categories of videogames and other new media formats. Even the torrent of exported goods and domestic development creates its own gravity and alters perception. At the same time though, this clearly doesn’t make them any less likely to hate you or alter their political decision making on any level.

There was an article a while ago that talked about “sharp power” and I think the most obvious interpretation today would be that there is no meaningful distinction whatsoever between “soft power that actually does something” and “sharp power”
