Xi Jinping has called on Russia, India and other countries in the region to join China in leveraging their economic influence to challenge the west at a time of rising geopolitical and trade tensions.
The Chinese president, hosting a regional security forum on Monday, told more than 20 leaders that with the world undergoing “turbulence and change”, they needed to uphold an “orderly multi-polar world”.
This included championing free trade and “a more just and reasonable global governance system”, Xi said in a clear challenge to the current US-led system.
In a veiled response to Trump’s trade war, the Chinese leader announced what he called a “global governance initiative” founded on principles including “sovereign equality”, “international rule of law” and “multilateralism”.
The initiative is the fourth in a series of Chinese policy frameworks that also cover development, security and “civilisation” and are intended to compete with the US-led international order. While the initiatives are vaguely worded, analysts say they are intended to appeal to developing countries and erode the dominance of US and western global power.

As usual, a bunch of vague statements about free trade, but nothing concrete on any alternative to the current system of surplus recycling that only the USA fulfills and they are going to manage global imbalances. Or how they might provide global security, or how they might manage the global debt crisis and ensure macroeconomic stability.
Instead, the first thing Beijing does is focus on historical revisionism in WW2 which surely going to help the lives of their day to day citizens. How cynical.
