Tokyo Governor denies “Korean massacre during Great Kanto Earthquake” for 9th year in a row… Citizens say “unacceptable”

“Governor Koike’s attitude of disregarding the Korean victims is unacceptable.” Kiyoshi Nishizawa, the Japanese representative of the Tokyo Korean Forced Labor Truth Investigation Group, strongly criticized Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike for refusing to send a message of condolence to the “102nd Anniversary Memorial Ceremony for the Victims of the Korean Massacre during the Great Kanto Earthquake,” held at Yokoamicho Park in Tokyo’s Sumida Ward.

Nishizawa stated, “The Kanto Massacre was a massacre of Koreans by Japanese people (in Tokyo and elsewhere),” and emphasized, “Governor Koike, who currently holds responsibility for Tokyo, must not shy away from history.”

The Korean Massacre during the Great Kanto Earthquake of September 1, 1923, was an incident in which the Japanese military, police, and vigilantes massacred thousands of innocent Koreans and other victims during the chaos following the earthquake.
