TLDR: nations around the world have seen a decline in fertility rates and this effect is most pronounced in those nations that saw rapid economic development while maintaining more traditional gender roles. In such nations, men remain attached to their more traditional roles while women embrace their new economic opportunities. This decline in fertility is less pronounced in nations that had or adopted more flexible gender roles.
