Critics of transhumanism argue that it could deepen inequality by making advanced enhancements accessible only to the wealthy, while also threatening human identity by blurring the line between what is natural and what is engineered.

Ethical concerns are raised about safety, consent, and the possibility of powerful technologies being misused.

Critics fear corporations or authoritarian governments could weaponize these technologies for surveillance, control, or warfare, turning people into data-driven commodities.

There’s also the existential risk that in striving to transcend our biology, we lose touch with what makes us human..our emotions, vulnerability, and sense of shared mortality.

Transhumanists, however, see the movement as more than technological progress, they view it as the most logical path toward transcending human limits.

For some, enhancing consciousness through technology is the sure way to experience oneness, connect with the soul, and even open access to higher states of being often described as the β€œ5th dimension.”

What do yall think? Are critics of transhumanist just anti technology or anti progress or could transhumanism possibly lead to a castrated/emasculated society ?

    All viewpoints are welcome! πŸ€—

Peace and have a great Saturday ❀️

They’re losers. And only bad will come from this train of thought. Take me back to the 1950s to live my life in that time

    2. I don’t get posts like these… is there a human alive that thinks this shit has any chance of developing into something good.

    3. If you need technology to ‘transend’, I doubt you’d like what you become, let alone what you’ll meet.

Have yall seen the new show on FX called Alien:Earth? It’s based on a guy like Elon making a transhumanist group from kids into adult bodies. The aliens won’t eat them because they aren’t real humans. But this show is one of those that you know they are showing you what they plan to do. Very interesting from that standpoint. Good alien show too.

    5. Transhumanism is a broad thing. Glasses/Contacts? Pacemaker? Artificial bone implant? All of those qualify. Not to mention synthetic limb and organ replacements

I think at this point we could all qualify as transhumans. All of us with smartphones, anyway.

I’m an old, I remember life before cell phones. There was a time that I could remember the phone numbers of every one of my friends and family. I have offloaded that functionality to my device. I never need to wonder anymore, I have the sum total of human knowledge at my literal fingertips.

I do not think transhumanism is going to be a problem, I think it would take a significant shift in social zeitgeist for people to give preference to metal over flesh. Most of the transhumanism we will experience will be reactive; medical interventions and replacements, mostly.

Unless you consider genetic tampering a part of transhumanism. In that case the story is quite different. CRISPR/CAS-9 is poised to completely alter humanity, almost Post-humanism, rather than transhumanism. Machine replacements don’t affect the gene line, augmetics can’t be passed down hereditarily, unlike the alterations we can make altering genes.

*From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Machine. Your kind cling to your flesh, as if it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass that you call a temple will wither, and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved, for the Machine is immortal*

I dont get why so many people hate it so much. I unironically think some of the hate stems from having “trans” in the name. Why wouldnt I want to make myself smarter and more physically capable. Why wouldnt I want to make myself have super healing capabilities or the ability to hypersleep for interstellar travel, etc.
