It was revealed on the 6th that the immigration raid carried out on the 4th by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at the construction site of the Hyundai–LG Energy Solution joint battery plant in Georgia began with a tip-off from local politician Tori Branum.
On the day of the raid, Branum disclosed this herself on Facebook, writing:
“I reported this site to ICE.”
In the same post, she added:
“For the past few months, people have been whispering about what was happening behind the doors of this site. At last, the truth has been caught. As long as the law is being ignored, I will not stay silent.”
She also wrote that jobs rightfully should go to residents of her home region in Georgia.
Afterwards, Branum continued posting multiple comments and messages on social media about the ICE raid. She wrote:
“Considering that it’s a Korea-based company and in its runway (early survival stage), this is insane.”
She also claimed:
“I spoke with two Korean media outlets, and they asked me, ‘After this raid, do you think foreign countries will still want to do business in the United States?’ I replied doing business in America is a privilege.”
Branum has announced her candidacy as a Republican primary contender for Georgia’s 12th Congressional District in the 2026 U.S. House elections scheduled for next November. According to her campaign website, she is originally from Oklahoma, now a Georgia resident, and has served in the U.S. Marine Corps. She describes herself as “the candidate who most firmly carries forward the spirit of Trump,” and has taken extreme positions on issues such as cracking down on illegal immigration and opposing gun control.
