      I want to do things and I want to be productive and improve myself but I have an oppressive sense of helplessness and hopelessness that feels like an anvil weighing down on my chest when I get in this mood. Like I have the capacity to do what I want, but everything that is stopping me is not up to my control. I feel humiliated and ashamed and enfeebled compared to who I was even two years ago, let alone five. And each day that passes is acutely felt on my psyche as it grinds down day after day, rejection letter after rejection letter, and all emotion expressed is met with “It’s ok, it’ll work out!” which I understand is the correct answer to my emotional state, but I just feel like it’s dismissive and as if my circumstances are some mild inconvenience instead of a crushing weight. And that just furthers the alienation I have with other people that is already felt by my social support group becoming more distant with time, and I cannot even complain about it because they are just getting older and being more responsible! But I am the one that’s left behind, a forgotten relic. My soul crushed between the gears of life functioning as it should.

      I just don’t know what to do.

      You know there’s a dark humour to going to a shithole like /pol/ and seeing the fascists dunk on the guys who enact their ideology because they were cringe in someway or something

      I think it’s obscured by the movement going mainstream and thus seeming more in sync, when in reality these miserable little fucks hate everyone and everything. Someone could exactly enact their ideological hate by killing people and they would go “what a loser”

      How could it be anything else?

      Look at the way democratic politicians and the vast majority of left-leaning outlets reacted to Kirk’s murder, and contrast that with the way right-wing media and politicians reacted. The way they called for blood, put it all at the feet of the people who were decrying this.

      Contrast it with the way Kirk himself reacted whenever a prominent figure on the left was attacked.

      The right has been gradually ratcheting up the temperature for decades. This is a political movement that has painted us as unhumans beyond reason non-stop from inside a media apparatus that exists primarily to prevent them from ever having to sit with, or even encounter, a challenging thought.

      I mean, for fuck’s sake, Unhumans is literally the name of a book the Vice President–and Kirk, I may add–endorsed that favorably pointed to fucking Pinochet as a bulwark against communism and an example worthy of emulation. Their #2 guy can sing the praises of Mein Kampf: The Squeakwal, but the INSTANT someone has the gall to say, “Look, this dude shouldn’t have been murdered, but he was a polemicist who worked to legitimize violence against those he hated,” they get fired from MSNBC.

      I don’t know how we get out of this cultural death spiral, because I am convinced it would mean destroying the right wing media, and at this stage, I just don’t know if that’s ever going to be possible.
